Habit: Annual, 35-70cm high.
Stems: Hairless, erect, stout.
Leaves: Opposite, lanceolate, short-stalked, basal leaves 3 or 5 lobed, segments lanceolate and coarsely toothed.
Flowers: Greenish-yellow, flower-heads nearly erect, 15-25mm across; involucral bracts numerous, in 2 or 3 rows, outer ones long and leafy; florets all tubular; receptacles with scales between the florets.
Fruits: An achene, pappus of 2-4 rigid, tough bristles.
Habitat: Damp and open habitats.
