Habit: A hairless biennial, to 50 cm high.
Stems: Erect, slender.
Leaves: Undivided, opposite, entire, oval or broadly lanceolate; basal leaves forming a rosette.
Flowers: Pink, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite; calyx fused with 5 linear lobes longer than the calyx tube; corolla fused with 5 oval lobes 4-6 mm long; stamens 5, attached to the corolla lobes; ovary superior.
Fruits: A capsule.

Habitat: Pastures, grasslands.Distribution: Frequent on limestone and near the sea, rare elsewhere.
