Habit: A stout perennial, to 60 cm high.
Stems: Erect, nearly unbranched stems.
Leaves: Dark green, mealy when young, triangular, with prominent basal lobes, otherwise entire or shallowly lobed.
Flowers: Green to red, hermaphrodite, in terminal nearly leafless panicles; tepals 4-5; stamens 4-5.
Fruits: An achene, seeds dark brown or black, surrounded by thin, translucent or silvery fruit wall, fruit enclosed by tepals.
Habitat: Roadsides and waste places, near houses.
