Description
Habit: Erect, hairless perennial, to 50 cm high.
Stems: Smooth, slender, hollow after flowering, growing from an underground globular tuber.
Leaves: Leaves few, mostly basal, triangular, 3-pinnate and withering early; upper stem leaves 2-pinnate with linear lobes and sheathing stalks.
Flowers: White, in terminal umbels, with 6-10 rays; bracts absent or few, bracteoles 2-5; petals 5, free; stamens 5; ovary inferior and 2-celled.
Fruits: A schizocarp, 3-4 mm, ovoid or oblong, slightly ridged.
Habitat: Woods, heaths, meadows, pastures, rocky ground and riversides.
Distribution: Frequent and locally abundant.
