Leaves: Alternate, stalked, triangular, pointed, partly rough with very short and stiff hairs.
Flowers: Greenish-white or pink, actinomorphic, in slender axillary spikes; tepals 5, the outer 3 larger and keeled; stamens 8; ovary superior, 1-celled; styles 3.
Fruits: A small nut, 4-5 mm, dull black, minutely pitted.
Habitat: Cultivated ground, more rarely in waste places.Distribution: Occasional and locally frequent.
