Description
Habit: A hairy perennial, to 50 cm high.
Stems: Erect.
Leaves: Alternate, stalked, with leafy stipules less than 1 cm long, irregularly pinnate, terminal leaflet very large and sometimes near circular.
Flowers: Red-purple, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, flowers drooping and cup-shaped, solitary or in cymes; calyx 5-toothed, with 5 bracts alternating with sepals; petals 5, free; stamens numerous; carpels numerous, not sunk in calyx-tube.
Fruits: An achene, with a long, stiff and hooked style.
Habitat: Scrub, wood-margins, limestone pavement, rock-ledges. Distribution: Occasional to frequent on the limestone, very rare elsewhere.
