Description
Habit: A slightly glandular hairy perennial, to 15 cm high.
Stems: Flowering stems slender and erect, other stems trailing.
Leaves: Stem leaves opposite; basal leaves in a tuft, larger, up to 20 mm long; entire, linear, acute but without a long point.
Flowers: White, actinomorphic, solitary, 10-15 mm across; sepals 5; petals 5, twice as long as sepals; stamens 10; styles 5, ovary superior.
Fruits: A capsule, 4 mm.
Habitat: Edges of marshes, lake-shores, damp ground and small hollows in limestone pavement.
Distribution: Locally frequent, but unevenly distributed and absent from large areas.
