Description
Habit: Perennial, to 15 cm high.
Stems: Erect to semi-erect, weak, square.
Leaves: Opposite, stalkless, undivided, oblong-lanceolate, entire or slightly toothed at the base.
Flowers: Pink, zygomorphic, 8 mm long, in axillary pairs forming a sparse 1-sided spike; calyx tubular, of five fused sepals, 2-lipped, upper lip entire with a hollow and scale-like protuberance on its back, lower lip entire; corolla tubular, of 5 fused petals, more than twice as long as calyx, 2-lipped, lips nearly closed, upper lip concave and narrow, lower lip 3-lobed and flat; stamens 4, attached to the corolla, usually in two pairs, one longer than the other; ovary superior.
Fruits: A group of 4 1-seeded nutlets.
Habitat: Marshes, bog-margins, riverbanks, lake-shores.Distribution: Rather rare.
