Description
Habit: Annual, 10-35 cm high.
Stems: Hairless or slightly woolly.
Leaves: Narrow, irregularly but seldom deeply pinnatifid; lobes jagged and toothed.
Flowers: Yellow, flower-heads cylindrical, almost stalkless at first, with the stalk lengthening as the fruit ripens; involucral bracts linear with several small outer ones below the main series; inner and outer series black-tipped; florets usually tubular.
Fruits: An achene, pappus of unbranched hairs.
Habitat: Sand dunes, cultivated ground, waste places, limestone pavement.
Distribution: Very frequent throughout most of the region.
