Description
Habit: Biennial or perennial, to 60 cm high.
Stems: Semi-prostrate stems, hairless or sparsely hairy.
Leaves: Alternate and finely dissected into hair-like segments; leaf segments rather fleshy with a short point; with a faint pungent smell.
Flowers: Flower-heads solitary and 30-45mm across; involucral bracts in several rows with dark brown, membranous margin; outer florets ligulate, radiating, white; inner florets tubular and yellow; no scales present on the receptacle between the florets.
Fruits: An achene with 3 smooth, almost contiguous, ribs on one side and 2 dark elongated oil-glands on the other; pappus represented by a short membranous ring.
Habitat: Sea shores, cliffs and waste ground near the sea.
Distribution: Frequent and locally abundant.
