Description
Habit: A woody shrub, to 60 cm high.
Stems: Erect, bushy, green, angular and hairless.
Leaves: Alternate, deciduous, hairless, pale green; oval, finely toothed, 15-20 mm long.
Flowers: Pinkish white, solitary or rarely paired in leaf-axils, drooping; calyx circular, scarcely lobed; corolla shortly urn-shaped with 5 short lobes; stamens 8-10.
Fruits: A bluish-black berry.
Habitat: Banks, bog-margins, heathy ground, rocky ridges, occasional in woods.
Distribution: Frequent to abundant on acid soils, very rare on limestone.
