Description
Habit: A hairless perennial.
Stems: Semi-erect to spreading, stout, fleshy, to 60 cm long.
Leaves: Opposite, without stipules, fleshy, short-stalked, undivided, bluntly toothed, oval, 2-3 cm long.
Flowers: Blue, nearly actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, 7 mm across, in short and opposite axillary racemes; calyx deeply 4-lobed; corolla slightly irregularly 4-lobed, with a very short tube; stamens 2, borne on corolla tube; ovary superior, 2-celled, style 1.
Fruits: A capsule, 2-lobed, not strongly flattened, about as long as wide scarcely notched at tip.

Habitat: Ditches, marshes, lake-shores, small pools.Distribution: Frequent throughout except in areas where its habitats are rare.
