Description
Habit: A minute, hairless annual, up to 5 cm.
Stems: Erect to semi-erect, much branched at the base.
Leaves: Stalkless, without stipules, 3-5 mm long, undivided, untoothed, oval, with a pointed tip; upper leaves alternate, lower leaves opposite.
Flowers: Actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, less than 2 mm across, stalkless in leaf axils; sepals 4, free or fused and 4-lobed, narrowly triangular to lanceolate; petals 4, fused at the base, 4-lobed, white or pink; stamens 4, attached to the corolla, opposite the corolla lobes; ovary superior, 1-celled, with many ovules.
Fruits: A capsule, globular, opening by splitting from the middle.

Habitat: Base and peaty soils, usually near the sea.Distribution: Rather rare.
