Description
Habit: A hairless perennial, to 40 cm high.
Stems: Erect, thick, fleshy, with rhizomes.
Leaves: Alternate or mostly basal in large tufts, without stipules, with long stalks, fleshy; undivided, round or kidney-shaped, roundly toothed.
Flowers: Yellow, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, 1-5 cm across, in small and leafy cymes on stout and fleshy stalks; sepals petal-like, large and free; petals absent; stamens numerous, indefinite and free; ovary superior.
Fruits: A cluster of 5-10 follicles.

Habitat: Ditches, marshes, streams, lake-shores, damp grassland.Distribution: Frequent and locally abundant.
