Habit: Annual, 30-60 cm high.
Stems: Slender, covered with grey hairs.
Leaves: Alternate, linear, lower leaves lobed.
Flowers: Bright blue to blueish-purple, flower-heads 30-40 mm across; involucral bracts with silvery-white teeth; florets tubular, outer florets large and bright blue, inner ones bluish-purple; receptacle with bristles between the florets.
Fruits: An achene, pappus of short, stiff, scaly bristles, or rarely absent.

Habitat: Roadsides.
Distribution: Aran islands, very rare.
