Habit: A hairless perennial, to 1.5 m high.
Stems: Stout, finely grooved, solid at first, becoming hollow.
Leaves: Leaves 3-pinnate, with hair-like leaflets; smelling strongly of aniseed.
Flowers: Yellow, in terminal umbels with 10-25 rays; bracts and bracteoles absent; petals 5, free; stamens 5; ovary inferior and 2-celled.
Fruits: Achenes, 4-5 mm, ovoid to oblong.

Habitat: Roadsides and waste ground, also cultivated.
Distribution: Rare.
