Description
Habit: A biennial or perennial, to 90 cm high.
Stems: Erect to spreading, robust, pale bluish-green with yellow latex.
Leaves: Alternate, thick, irregularly pinnately lobed; basal leaves stalked and hairy, stem leaves stalkless and sometimes hairy, the uppermost clasping the stem.
Flowers: Orange to yellow, actinomorphic, solitary, 5-8 cm across; sepals 2, falling when the flower opens; petals 4, free, large, crumpled and papery first, falling early; stamens numerous; ovary superior.
Fruits: A capsule, with numerous seeds, thin, up to 30 cm long, splitting lengthwise from the top.

Habitat: Shingle-beaches.Distribution: Very rare.
