Description
Habit: A biennial, to 80 cm high, usually hairy, sticky and smelly.
Stems: Erect, coarse.
Leaves: Alternate, without stipules, undivided, strongly toothed, pinnately lobed, rarely undivided, to 20 cm long; basal leaves stalked, upper leaves stalkless and sometimes clasping the stem.
Flowers: Dull yellow with purple veins, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, numerous, forming 2 rows on the upper part of the stem; sepals 5, united to form a funnel-shaped calyx, persistent and enlarging in fruit; petals 5, fused into funnel-shaped tube which is 5-lobed, lobes broad and rounded, 25-35 mm across; stamens 5, attached to the corolla-tube; ovary superior, 2-celled; style solitary.
Fruits: A capsule, seeds flat, pale brown and rough.
Habitat: Stony seashores.Distribution: Very rare.
