Description
Habit: A hairless perennial, to 60 cm high.
Stems: Erect, slender, thin, smooth.
Leaves: Opposite, entire, stalkless, without stipules, oval, with abundant translucent glands, but without black glands.
Flowers: Yellow, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, 12-18 mm across, in terminal cymes; sepals 5, free, fringed with shortly stalked black glands; petals 5, free, tinged with red on lowerside, fringed with shortly stalked black glands; stamens in 3 (rarely 5) bundles; styles 3; ovary superior.
Fruits: A capsule, succulent and berry-like, seeds numerous.

Habitat: Heathy ground, scrub, roadsides, banks, rough grazing areas and limestone pavement.
Distribution: Very frequent to abundant throughout.
