Description
Habit: A slightly hairy perennial, to 75 cm high.
Stems: Unbranched or branched; flowering stems erect with a few trailing shoots at the base.
Leaves: Opposite, entire, linear to oblong, pointed.
Flowers: Pink, actinomorphic, in loose terminal cymes; sepals 5, united to form a tube; petals 5, 20-25 mm long, upper part of petals deeply cut into 4 narrow lobes; stamens 10; styles 5, ovary superior.
Fruits: A capsule.

Habitat: Marshes, fens and wet meadows.
Distribution: Frequent on the Clare shales, rare elsewhere.
