Description
Habit: A hairy perennial, to 1.5 m high.
Stems: Erect.
Leaves: Opposite, occasionally alternate, in whorls of 3-4, stalkless or short-stalked, without stipules, 5-8 cm long, undivided, untoothed, oval-lanceolate, hairy and with minute glands.
Flowers: Yellow, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, 10-15 mm across, numerous in a leafy, terminal, pyramidical panicle; sepals 5, hairy, fused at the base and 5-lobed, lobes narrowly triangular; petals 5, fused at the base, deeply 5-lobed, tube very short or absent; stamens 5, attached to the corolla, opposite the corolla lobes; ovary superior, 1-celled, with many ovules.
Fruits: A capsule, with 5 openings.
