Description
Habit: A slightly hairy perennial, to 40 cm high.
Stems: Erect, with strong tap-root and yellow latex.
Leaves: Alternate, stalked, pinnate with pinnately lobed leaflets.
Flowers: Yellow, actinomorphic, solitary, 5-8 cm across; sepals 2, falling when the flower opens; petals 4, free, large, crumpled and papery first, falling early; stamens numerous; ovary superior.
Fruits: A capsule, with numerous seeds, narrowly club-shaped, hairless, 2-3 cm long.
Habitat: Rocky places in the mountains, also found as an escape from cultivation.Distribution: Rare.
