Description
Habit: An aromatic perennial, to 90 cm high.
Stems: Erect, square, with rhizomes, branched.
Leaves: Opposite, hairy, stalkless, undivided, broadly oval to almost round, wrinkled, toothed with teeth bent under.
Flowers: Mauve or white, almost actinomorphic, numerous in axillary whorl-like clusters forming dense spikes; calyx tubular 5-toothed, bell-shaped; corolla tubular, bell-shaped with 4 short lobes, of which one is broader and notched; stamens 4, attached to the corolla, equal in length; ovary superior.
Fruits: A group of 4 1-seeded nutlets.

Habitat: Roadsides, waste ground.Distribution: Rare, recorded from Aran Islands and Galway.
