Description
Habit: A semi-aquatic perennial, to 1.5 m high.
Stems: Creeping or floating, long, submerged; flowering stems erect.
Leaves: All basal, with 3 oval and entire leaflets, 5 cm long, raised above water surface on long leaf stalks.
Flowers: White, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, on 30 cm tall flowering stems, 10-20 in a dense terminal head; calyx deeply 5-lobed; corolla 5-lobed, each lobe fringed with many white hairs on the inner surface; stamens 5, attached to the corolla; ovary superior, style single.
Fruits: A capsule.

Habitat: Marshes, bogs, fens and other very wet places. Distribution: Abundant throughout.
