Description
Habit: An erect, hairy annual or biennial, to 40 cm high.
Stems: Branched stems.
Leaves: Greyish-green, unstalked; basal leaves tapered to petiole-like base, lower leaves spoon-shaped, upper leaves oval to lanceolate and pointed.
Flowers: Blue, actinomorphic, 3-4 mm across, in terminal, spiralled cymes; calyx with hooked, spreading hairs, lobed nearly to the base with 5 irregular, triangular teeth; corolla with 5 spreading lobes and a short tube; ovary superior.
Fruits: A group of 4, greenish to black, very small 1-seeded nutlets; calyx teeth concealing ripe nutlets.

Habitat: Roadsides, sand-dunes, cultivated ground, thin grassland.
Distribution: Widespread but nowhere very common.
