Description
Habit: An erect stoloniferous perennial, to 60 cm high.
Stems: Slender, thin-walled and hollow.
Roots: Tuberous, spindle-shaped.
Leaves: Long-stalked, the stalk longer than leaf blade; lower leaves sometimes 2-pinnate; upper leaves 1-pinnate with 3-6 pairs of entire, linear to oblong leaflets.
Flowers: White, in terminal umbels, with 2-5 stout rays; umbel stalk longer than the rays; bracts absent, bracteoles several; petals 5, free; stamens 5; ovary inferior and 2-celled.
Fruits: A schizocarp, 3-4 mm, ovoid somewhat flattened.
Habitat: Fens, marshy riverbanks and lake-shores.
