Habit: A hairy perennial, to 40 cm high.
Stems: Semi-erect or spreading.
Leaves: Alternate, without stipules, to 4 cm, undivided, untoothed, oval to lanceolate.
Flowers: Green with red sepals, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite or unisexual, small, in nearly stalkless, often branched, axillary clusters; calyx 4-lobed; corolla absent; stamens 4; style 1, ovary superior, 1-celled.
Fruits: An achene.
Habitat: Walls, rocky- or shingle-beaches, limestone pavement.Distribution: Frequent on the limestone, not recorded elsewhere.
