Description
Habit: Perennial, to 1 m high, spreading by stolons to form small clumps.
Stems: Erect, hairy, with stolons.
Leaves: Alternate or basal, 7-10 cm long, short-stalked, undivided, untoothed, oval, pointed and with whitish hairs on the upper surface, with a red midrib; stipules membranous, whitish or brown, united to form a sheath surrounding stem or leaf stalk.
Flowers: White and pink, actinomorphic, numerous in short spikes grouped into small, compact and leafy panicles; perianth bell-shaped, 5-lobed, with tube longer than lobes, not winged, tube white and lobes pink; stamens 8; ovary superior, 1-celled, style 1, divided into 3.
Fruits: A small nut, 3-angled or 3-winged.

Habitat: Roadsides and woods.Distribution: Rare.
