Description
Habit: An aquatic, annual or perennial.
Stems: Aquatic or floating.
Leaves: Aquatic or floating, spirally appearing alternately arranged; leaves of 2 different forms or hair-like leaves only; flat leaves circular, generally floating, divided over halfway to 3-7 lobes, with long stalk to 7 cm; hair-like leaves generally submerged, with rigid or slender, hair-like segments.
Flowers: White, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, solitary, 12-17 mm across; sepals 5, petal-like, spreading and free; the petals 5 or more, with circular nectaries; stamens numerous, indefinite and free; ovary superior.
Fruits: A cluster of achenes, young achenes hairy.

Habitat: Lake-margins, pools and ditches.Distribution: Occasional in the Burren, rare elsewhere.
