Description
Habit: An aquatic, annual or perennial.
Stems: Aquatic or floating.
Leaves: Aquatic or floating, spirally arranged with leaves of 2 different forms; floating leaves divided over halfway to 3 lobes; submerged leaves with rigid, thin segments.
Flowers: White, actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, solitary, 12-18 mm across; sepals 5, free, bent backwards down the flower stalk, usually blue-tipped; the petals 5, 5-10 mm, with crescent-shaped nectaries; stamens numerous, indefinite and free; ovary superior.
Fruits: A cluster of achenes, very small and numerous, with a narrow wing.

Habitat: Lake-shores and marshes, usually near the sea.Distribution: Occasional but very local.
