Description
Habit: An aquatic, annual or perennial.
Stems: Aquatic or floating.
Leaves: Aquatic or floating, spirally appearing alternately arranged; leaves of 2 different forms or hair-like leaves only; flat leaves circular, divided over halfway to 3-7 lobes, with long stalk to 7 cm; hair-like leaves with thin segments, longer than in R. peltatus and than the adjacent internode, more numerous and very limp, collapsing when taken out of the water.
Flowers: Actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, solitary, 15-30 mm across, white; perianth with 2 whorls; the sepals 5, petal-like, spreading and free; the petals 5 or more, with pear-shaped nectaries; stamens numerous, indefinite and free; ovary superior.
Fruits: A cluster of achenes, young achenes hairy.

Habitat: Streams and rivers, rarely in lakes. Distribution: Occasional.
