Description
Habit: A hairy annual.
Stems: Erect to semi-erect, branched, to 30 cm long.
Leaves: Opposite, without stipules, undivided, triangular, oval, coarsely and bluntly toothed; lower leaves stalked and upper leaves stalkless.
Flowers: Bright blue, nearly actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, 4 mm across, numerous in slender and rather dense racemes; calyx deeply 4-lobed, lobes oblong and unequal; corolla slightly irregularly 4-lobed, with a very short tube; stamens 2, borne on corolla tube; ovary superior, 2-celled, style 1.
Fruits: A capsule, 2-lobed, heart-shaped, hairy, about as long as the calyx.
Habitat: Roadsides, walls, semi-stable sand-dunes.Distribution: Rare to widespread, but nowhere very common.
