Description
Habit: Perennial, to 50 cm high.
Stems: Erect.
Leaves: Opposite, undivided, without stipules, narrow oblong-lanceolate, stalkless, untoothed or very shallowly toothed.
Flowers: Pinkish, nearly actinomorphic, hermaphrodite, 6 mm across, solitary in opposite and axillary racemes; calyx deeply 4-lobed; corolla slightly irregularly 4-lobed, with a very short tube; stamens 2, borne on corolla tube; ovary superior, 2-celled, style 1.
Fruits: A capsule, 2-lobed, not strongly flattened, wider than long, scarcely notched at tip.
Habitat: Ditches, turloughs and marshes.Distribution: Frequent on the limestone.
